English Douglas Fir is an excellent wood for its strength & beautiful grain, its colour ranges from light red to pale yellow. Relatively low in weight compared to its strength, it makes it an ideal choice for post and beam design. Used worldwide, Douglas fir is also more stable than oak and absorbs less moisture. It's also naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insects, with a high-level of flexibility and is weather-resistant, making it a fantastic alternative to British oak.
All our wood is cut to size and milled on site, Untreated timber (sometimes referred to as sawn) is in its natural state. Once sawn the majority of our stock is meticulously stored, air dried but can also be finished in a wood kiln to produce the finest, stable, ready-to-use wood products.
We can cut on site any timber up to 8 metre in length, beams, cladding, Rafters, bearers, joists, posts and more. Douglas Fir has an impressive strength to weight ratio, with an 855 mPA, it's excellent to span large distances with little deflection.
